Lockdown in Odisha till 16 July, night curfew to remain in force. Details here...


  1.  In 20 districts with a positive rate of less than 5%, the weekend curfew will be lifted
  2. The doors to religious, educational and cinema halls will remain closed. Also, the restrictions on funerals and weddings will not be lifted.

Wednesday's announcement by the Odisha government was that partial lockdown will be maintained in the state for 15 more days until 16 July. The current COVID lockdown restrictions will be lifted at 5 AM Thursday.


The report also noted that 20 districts with a positive rate below 5% would have their weekend curfew lifted. Night curfew will still be in effect in all districts. Night curfew will continue to be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on all days.

The state government divided the 30 districts into two categories: A and B. Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra stated that twenty districts with a lower test positivity rate (TPR), are in the A category. The remaining 10 coastal areas, which have a high number of cases, are in B category.

He said that while the night curfew will remain in effect across the state from 6 PM to 6:30 AM, people and services within the essential category will be allowed to move during the restricted hours.

This is a list of what is and is not allowed in the category A districts

Weekly shutdowns will not be held in category A areas. Shops will still be open between 6 AM and 6 PM. The maximum number of passengers that buses can transport is up to their seating capacity. Taxis and autorickshaws are allowed to carry two people.

Weekly haats and daily markets can be opened, small salons may function, street food vendors are allowed to operate take-out businesses, and outdoor and indoor filming is permitted in these areas.

According to the directive Sundargarh and Jharsuguda are classified as category A districts.

What is permitted and what isn't in category B districts

Shops can be opened in category B districts from 6 AM to 2PM, but beauty parlours, shopping malls, and spas will remain closed.

These districts won't see bus services resume now, and weekends will be closed.

Category B includes the coastal districts of Nayagarh and Cuttack, Puri. Khurda. Jagatsinghpur. Jajpur Kendrapara. Bhadrak. Balasore.

Mohapatra informed that religious and educational institutions, as well as cinema halls, will continue to be closed. The ban on public gatherings (trade fairs, exhibitions, and jatra) will continue in Odisha.

He said that the restrictions on funerals and weddings will continue.

Mohapatra stated that the state government extended the partial lockdown in keeping with the current situation. However, an effort was made for a balance between livelihood and life.

After the resurgence in COVID-19 cases, the lockdown was initially imposed on May 5, and has been repeatedly extended.
